Kesha Cashes In

Written by Jason Curtis
Pop music is celebrating with the arrival of a brand-new storyteller called Kesha.

As 2009 draw to a close, her single “Tik Tok” was without doubt the summer scorcher. Now this firecracker’s dropped her debut album Animal and like that single, it slid straight in at the very top of the US Billboard charts the week it was released.

With the New Year kicking into overdrive, Kesha looks set to cash in as her cool factor simply makes her hotter. She may be young but she’s loaded with ambition.

At age five, Kesha was videotaped, covered in body paint saying, “I’m going to be a rock star and there’s no way anyone is going to stop me!” Today she echos that 17-year-old sentiment when she confirms, “It’s my calling. If I don’t go for it, I’m going to feel like a tool when I’m 50.”

In putting the finishing touches to Animal, Kesha hooked up with her second producer option, Dr Luke, who’s best known for his miracle work with Britney, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson.

Her first was Prince. After bribing a gardener at the artist formally known as Symbol’s Hollywood mansion to let her slip in under his gate, she dropped off a demo in his studio before being escorted off the property by weighty security.

She never heard back from the Purple Rain maker and so her half sung/half rapped demo went to RCA Records who signed her up a year in a heartbeat almost a year ago this month.

SPEAK YOUR MIND
  1. This is most probably the worst album of 2010, and the year hasn't even started yet. Another reason why the quality of good music has declined so rapidly over the past decade. utter rubbish!!The lyrics are stupid and sounds like a handicapped 5 year old wrote them. Amazing how record companies can brainwash people by force feeding them this rubbish. Worst of all, people actually fall for it...what an absolute joke!!!
